New Skincare - The Face Mask Reboot

Face masks used to be fairly basic offerings; you had the "mud" pack, the peel off and the clay mask. I had a penchant for the Montagne Jeunesse individual masks, they proffered more variety with "hot" masks, fruits featured often and yoghurt often snuck in there too. While they never really went away, the humble face mask had been seriously under the radar for at least a decade. I feel the Korean and Japanese skincare companies brought it back into fashion with it reworked into a sheet mask, with their step heavy skincare regimes and their unique and innovative skin care products, bringing with them the new sheet face mask. Wearable technology and skincare go so well together and now sheet masks are a great way to get a super boost of skin saviours be it antioxidants, vitamins, collagen and hylauronic acid and more unorthodox ingredients.

TonyMoly, Benton, Leaders and Etude House are some of the popular Asian skin care sheet mask producing companies. The sheet itself is usually comprised of three layers two of which you dispose of, once you have the mask placed correctly on your face. There is cut out holes for your eyes, nostrils and mouth. The external sheets which keep the ingredients binded to the actual sheet you wear are plastic and cotton fiber. Along with the new form of face mask we have unusual ingredients too. Asian skincare is big on using snail mucin, bee venom, maple sap and pig collagen these ingredients have anti inflammatory, healing, moisturising properties that give the skin a real boost.
I started seeing sheet face masks at my local chemist and stores and tried one from a brand that is manufactured here in Perth Western Australia, I have now reviewed each of their trio of sheet masks which is among-st other products that they have in their skin care product range. That brand is Essenzza Health Fuss Free Naturals Face Sheet Masks
So now anything is possible and I was not surprised to see a YouTube video by Tati; a very successful beauty blogger on YouTube featuring on her WTF beauty product series, a haute couture version of the sheet mask by Givenchy, called Le Soin Noir Lace Face Mask which takes the sheet mask to new heights.
Givenchy Le Soin Noir Lace Face Mask Limited Edition
The Givenchy mask is limited edition and only available online from Sephora. The stars of the mask is a black algae duo - black algae sap concentrate and golden sap. So an online search for the main product algae tells us it is a very beneficial common ingredient included in our skincare for many reasons.. Algae is also known as seaweed. Seaweed is featured in food products too. Seaweed contains a lot of skin beneficial ingredients like fatty acids, proteins, amino acids, minerals and chlorophyll. It also contains a very rich extract called 'Alguronic Acid' which aids cell regeneration and the production of elastin.
If you don't mind paying $300 for four face masks that are limited edition than by all means go ahead. I don't think such a common ingredient warrants such a high price for a single use item but what you buy is up to you. From memory, Tati was not overwhelmed by the mask after using it. You can watch her review on the mask on the link below.

Nannette De Gaspe Skincare Products
I have seen sheet masks now extend to the decolletage area, and like the Givenchy product, now we have dedicated masks to different areas of the upper body and that hook over your ears like Nannette De Gaspe's products. The Nannette de Gaspe skincare product range contains an eye area mask, a full face mask, a neck only mask, a mouth area only mask and tops of the hand masks. These masks are far more refined in appearance than the regular sheet masks and appear more pleasant to look at if you happen to live with others or if you catch a glimpse of your reflection, you won't be as startled as much as the "serial killer look" of the white hockey mask appearance of the regular sheet masks.
Suqqu Face Stretch Masks
Japanese brand Suqqu, has their version of serum filled sheet masks called Face Stretch MasksSuqqu Face Stretch Masks. One pack contains 6 face masks with 33mls of serum for $125. Suqqu is a hard to obtain brand and quite expensive but it is lauded by makeup artists such as Lisa Eldridge.
Sheet masks whatever their form, are a great way to get skin care benefits in a concentrated form and I personally love using them once to twice a week for well hydrated and healthy appearance. They are a great adjunct to your own skincare regime. There is a price range for everyone as well and are pretty easy to locate now. Treat your skin and yourself!
