Holy Grail Beautyy . . .

Storytime

I had read reviews on this product before and the product at that time was not currently available in stores in Australia.  So when I saw that it was being released here I kept my eyes peeled for it at the local supermarkets which stock "drugstore" cosmetic products.

The only colour in stock was #35 Rebel Red.  On opening and first applying, it is a thicker, more mousse like consistency than previous "liquid lip" products have currently been.  It also has a smell that I cannot place yet, I just know it reminds me of babies products.  Its thickness kind of sits upon the lips on a layer rather adhering tightly to the skin like other lip products.

The colour is a vivid, opaque cream that is a very warm based red.  I usually prefer blue based reds, but this was a very flattering colour for me personally.  There is 10 colours in the range.  Mainly brights instead of nudes.

I wore this for about three hours, around that time it had melted into my skin a lot more and unfortunately started to bleed around the parameters of my lips.  I did not wear any lip liner at all so to have a pure review.

It does leave a little staining on the parameters where it bled slightly.  It also reflects some shine too as you can see in the photo.

What's good about this product:

• Non drying
• Smell dissipates quickly
• Vivid colour
• Inexpensive
• Nice look to the product on the lips

What is not so good about this product:

• Not matte in formula
• Bleeds at the lips parameter
• Does have an initial smell that may be annoying to some

*Please forgive my wonky lips, that is how they always photograph! Its very odd, I must be lopsided!

Basically if you are looking for a matte liquid lip product that is actually a dried matte colour on your lips; than this is not it.  If you don't mind the above behavior of this product than it is a nice product to use.  Just make sure you line your lips first and maybe wipe off some excess product off the paddle like applicator first.

I recommend this product only on the above provisos.

More Maybelline

I very recently purchased this matte pencil in 50 I Like to Mauve It, hoping it would be my perfect pinky nude type mauve color. There are 10 color choices as you can see from the image above.

Unfortunately the color is not a hit with me, my lips are darker than the color itself so it gives an ever so slight chalky appearance.  It is very smooth and easy to apply, no drying effect at all which as we all know is an effect that occurs with matte formulas in varying degrees.  I think its a little too bright for me, even though the coating is not really thick there are undertones in it that are loud.  I think its the slight chalkiness that bothers me more than the color does actually as I am not averse to loud colored lipsticks.

On the upside of the pencil there is a plastic smudger that if you wish, you can create a 'stained worn look' effect on the lip with a concentrated amount of product in the inner of the lips and fading out to the edges and corners of the mouth.  I have seen this look executed in magazines and I personally am not a fan.  It can be an effect that can occur randomly with lipsticks that wear off in a patchy manner but it is not a look I am into.  Having said that the smudger does not do a great job and you are better off using your finger, brush or Q-tip to create this effect.

If this color were what I was after than I would use it and buy it over and over.  It probably suits a lot of other people more than me.  *For some context in regards to the color and my coloring I have very fair skin with pink undertones, blue eyes, dark blonde hair naturally but have white blonde highlights.  I also have white eyebrows naturally so I need to use a pencil to bring them out.  Otherwise I look like the smudging tool on this product.

Thank-you for reading this review.

I swatched this on my hand before I bought it, and the colour is gorgeous.  I found the product to not dry my lips out at all.  The colour intensity will depend of course on your own lip colour,  I have only realised now that my lips are quite pigmented and it came off lighter than I expected.  The image of the lips is very true for me.  This is also meant to be a long wearing formula but it is not sadly.  It is not matte but more of a creme matte.  Possibly why it is not so drying!

Its a bit expensive to buy for what it is, I do love this colour though but I will not be re-purchasing again.  BUT, if I can find the right brown that I am forever looking for in the chocolates collection then I will purchase that!
