Holy Grail Beautyy . . .

Claudia Schiffer was the 90's answer to Brigette Bardot, a muse of couture house Chanel's head designer Karl Lagerfeld, Claudia was found in a nightclub in Germany and became the face of Chanel for five years as well as being regularly featured on runways, editorials and advertising by many a couture fashion house and cosmetic brands.  Her incredible body, face and similarity to Brigette Bardot made photos to remember and then some, that soon left the comparison to Bardot in the dust.  She was one of my all-time favourite models and I first saw Claudia on the cover of Australian Elle magazine.   Claudia married in 2002 to film producer, director and screenwriter Matthew Vaughn and has three children; Clementine Poppy de Vere Drummond, Caspar Matthew de Vere Drummond and Cosima Violet de Vere Drummond.  De Vere Drummond is Matthew Vaughn’s actual surname.

Claudia has explored developing other fiscal interests by first delving into designing cashmere sweaters which are available right now which led to other collaborations such as her bespoke range of unique, ornately embellished shoes from booties, heels and flats collection with designer Aquazzura in 2017.  Continuing with the foot and legs theme also in 2017, German hosiery company Kunert, paired with Claudia their own national Supermodel, to bring Legs; a super stylish, thoroughly modern hosiery collection.  Claudia worked with their creative team to bring a wide range of year-round hosiery from cashmere to a super sexy fishnet bodysuit.  Check out the brand here.

Her range with the cosmetic brand UK brand Art Deco, is full of personal touches not just a hastily put - together collection with her name and likeness attached to it.  I can't wait to try her beauty range now that there is an English language website as well as German, from what I can see there is lipsticks, contour, lipgloss, eye quads, single shadows, mascara, blush, bronzer and face products.  Her collection has great detail in it utilising her nickname; Cloudy, so everything has a tasteful but fun decorative element of rain drops or little clouds embellished onto the products whilst always being the epitome of class.  Prices range from $7 to $43 EUROs.

Claudia is a member of the arts and entertainment support committee for UNICEF which was the beginning of her philanthropic support work which has lead her to her current role as a UK Goodwill Ambassador.  Claudia has also been an active supporter of Make Poverty History; appearing in an advertising awareness campaign for the charity.  In 2005 she was a presenter at the Live 8 concerts in both Edinburgh and Berlin.

Linda Evangelista

Before the fab five there was the Trinity - a nickname that Linda, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell shared collectively as they were all muses of fashion photographer Steven Meisel and frequently were booked together.

What helped make Canadian born – Italian parentage Linda, such a formidable model was her ever changing hair colour and style that went from long, dark brown and straight to short, short, short, that almost over- night changed her career in leaps and bounds, as initially she was dropped from more than ten catwalk shows but by the next season she was bang on trend! Her hair ran the gamut of styles and shades from a rich bright red that was achieved by accident as it was part of the colour shade change from bleaching; the process was stopped right on this bright red shade and it added to her appeal.  She wore her hair in tight blonde curls, a twenties flapper hair style cut to her mid ear in light brown with blonde highlights and short fringe, short platinum blonde, black, mid length straight solid blonde, grown out fringe, back to straight medium brown, braids and extensions and thus her versatility has created the most enduring images in fashion and beauty.  Her innate talent elevated her to the next level of stardom and she became the embodiment of a model chameleon; adapting seamlessly to whatever brief she is given and going that extra mile and then some, combined with her modelling nous and unforgettable beauty she truly became an uber-model as she starred on over 700 magazine covers.

She has appeared in films, TV and two music videos.

After retiring, her life became very private and she borne a child in 2006 whose father is Francois - Henri Pinault, now Salma Hayek’s husband, she returned to the public arena in 2001 doing select modelling shoots and campaigns and in 2016 she became the Vice President and Creative Director for a singular luxury skincare brand called Erasa Skincare which has a sole product called Erasa XEP30.  The product is touted as an Extreme line lifting and rejuvenating concentrate that retails for 50mls for $160 USD. It contains ingredients that are purported to be a topical botox replacement, something which a lot of skincare addicts who are needle-phobes would be glad to know about!

Cindy Crawford

Cindy Crawford, the dark haired beauty with the alluring mole she was once advised to have removed changed the typical blue eyed blonde beauty standard to prove brunettes were just as appealing and early in her career was oft compared to Gia Carangi the late 70s dark Italian American beauty calling Cindy “Baby Gia” who tragically died of AIDS very early on in the 80s, however, Cindy soon proved she was her own person and soon those comparisons ended.

Cindy went from modelling supernova to married parenthood and is the wife to Rande Gerber whom she married in 1998 (she was first married to actor Richard Gere) and mother to Kaia 16 and son Presley 19, both models with IMG Models.

Cindy was one of the first to diversify her interests with collaborations and close to her retirement in 2000, Cindy created together with Jean Louis Sebagh to form Meaningful Beauty, via Guthy Renker TV shopping channels for over a decade now.  The range focuses on ageing skin and only addresses this skin concern.  Cindy re-emerged from retirement in 2011 and her daughter Kaia has recently been modelling for all the top couture houses as well as collaborating with head Chanel and Fendi designer, Karl Lagerfeld.

She continued with large retail collaborations and in 2005 she released a home decor brand called Cindy Crawford Home Collection with some traditional sofas and sectionals in neutrals and bursts of colour in leather and micro-fibre materials which is also available through Raymour and Flanigan with HM Richards Inc.

In 2009 she released another home decor accessories brand at J.C. Penney's plus a range of affordable jewelry called “One Kiss” both are no longer available now and in 2015 released a biography which was co-written by Katherine O'Leary called "Becoming" which details her life and career journey available via Amazon.

Kate emerged at the height of the Supermodel era of 1994, having been discovered in a New York airport by model booker Sarah Doukas and soon brought the rediscovered look of the thin waif after being photographed by Corinne Day, for more than a decade later.  This look was very distinctly different to the profound womanly amazon look of the Supermodels and was making a comeback from the time Twiggy popularised the new look in 1966 with her super slender figure and gamine blonde haircut.  Kate became the poster girl for model chic for her effortless clothes styling ability, mixing high street fast fashion with luxury pieces all throughout the 2000's.  Moss appeared in numerous music videos, publications, was a subject for a million dollar art sculpture, paintings and more and only in her retirement did she stop being feted for her personal style as she once was, but remains as an enduring and inimitable style icon for many worldwide.

She became a mother in 2002 to Lila-Grace with magazine editor Jefferson Hack and married musician Jamie Hince in 2011 which ended in divorce in 2015.

Some of her notable collaborations were with Top Shop releasing several collections for the high street label, 17 years with Rimmel London and recently Japanese skincare and cosmetic brand Decorte, which consisted of a makeup all in one pack with face, eye and lip makeup products and brushes. She has just been announced as Creative Director for a new product yet to be named by the brand.

Kate has been continually involved with various charities starting with War Child. In 2006 she lent her support and help in launching the SamandRuby charity after losing her friend and her friend’s child in the tsunami that hit Thailand.  She designed a jewellery piece for clothing and accessory company Wallis, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK in 2007.  Kate also supports the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the Hoping Foundation, the Lucie Blackman Trust, Make Poverty History, Comic Relief and Homes of Hope.  Moss joined up with Matt Pollard from the Little Britain sketch comedy show as the sister of the chav extraordinaire character Vicky Pollard for Comic Relief and in 2011 again; she created a short film called Misery Bear for the event.

Naomi Campbell

She was discovered as a teenager after school and was a ballet devotee which helped hone her perfectly toned silhouette.  Her stunning looks are courtesy of a mixed race background of Chinese and Jamaican and is known for her exceptionally fierce runway walk as well as countless editorials and runway appearances with all the major couture brands.  Naomi is still a working model today even though I have read that she may retire in the near future. She has appeared in at least forty TV shows, eleven documentaries, sixteen movies and nine music videos.   Campbell was the first black model to be a British Vogue cover girl in December 1987 since 1966 bringing a much needed end to race discrimination by the publication.  The following year in August she was on the cover of French Vogue which was precipitated by haute couture designer Yves Saint Laurent who threatened to remove all advertising from the magazine if they continued to refuse to feature black models on the cover. Campbell was third time triumphant appearing on the September issue of American Vogue the next year.

Naomi has parlayed her extensive experience in all facets of modelling plus the recognition of her Supermodel name status into a model search reality TV series called "The FACE".  The series started in her native UK, then followed on to the US and Australia.  Naomi appears in all of them and her co stars were other top recognisable names in the UK it was Erin O'Connor, Carolyn Winberg.  In the US it was Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova.  In Australia, it was Nicole Trunfio and Cheyenne Tozzi.

Naomi explored other creative pursuits and recorded and released an album called Babywoman (a nickname given to her by fashion designer Rifat Ozbek) and released four singles, some in collaboration with other artists.  Her recent television series appearances including the popular Fox show Empire with a recurring role as a fashion editor and in a two part episode of American Horror Story.

Naomi ventured into the fragrance business with For Women in 1999 which has grown to a nine scent collection available online.

In 2018 the CFDA Fashion Awards awarded her the covetable Fashion Icon Award.
Naomi has used her exceptional international fame and success for some 23 philanthropic and activist causes and this incredible effort borne from her own desire to give back en masse and has established two charitable organisations; Fashion Relief in 2005 which aids victims of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and tragedies such as the Mumbai terrorism bombings and We Love Brazil which aims to assist with poverty facilitated through local community endeavours with women and textiles.

Christy Turlington - Burns

She directed and lead the documentary in 2010 called No Woman, No Cry which featured at the Tribeca Film Festival which became the precursor to her creating the Every Mother Counts organisation.  The documentary portrays the issues that Christy wanted to bring attention to for women all over the world with being a mother, pregnancy and giving birth and focuses on four countries Bangladesh, Guatemala, Tanzania and the United States.  On May 7 2011, it was made publicly available on U.S. television and aired on the new Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).  The Do Something With Style Award  VH1 Do Something Awards had Turlington as a nominee for No Woman, No Cry.

Every Mother Counts existed first as an informative resource website and has since evolved to an active not-for-profit organisation with nine staff members and a board of five.  Thus far it has awarded 2.6 million dollars to aid midwives and birthing centres in areas of need.
