Fragrances for Olfactory Aficionados #1

1:51 PM

This is a new series I have started on discovering new fragrances and hopefully obtaining them!
Like many, I love perfume and  love finding new, unusual scents.  Here are four, anti mass market produced fragrances by the noses that know.

I myself like the heavy, seductive and sweet scents but I also like unexpected fragrances to get me out of my comfort zone.   I would love to get my hands on any one of these fragrances below! If you love undiscovered gems then continue reading below....

Serge Lutens Dent de Lait - the scent of milk teeth

Dent de Lait - Childhood scents are always a heartwarming trip into nostalgia and what eminent childhood rite of passage is losing one's milk teeth? The fragrance evokes the sweet milk which is created with almonds, coconut and cashmeran but don't be fooled; the sharp twist of pain and blood come through to shatter the once baby, then child to tween.  The bittersweet pain of growing up.

Iiuvo

Iiuvo, already found a cult following for their amazing  home candle fragrances such as Ajon, Woodgrain and Emmie have now branched out into transitioning their stunning candle fragrance formula to perfumes.  Called Edition One there is three sumptuous options in the line up.  First up is Soigne, a french word which means 'looked after' a richly spicy choice with a mixture of classic warm spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, sandalwood, patchouli and musk.  It makes me think of a delicious nightcap in winter with a significant other. Soigne is inspired by Frank Sinatra in his rat pack halycon days of Hollywood.

Next is Fonteyn which is of course the namesake of Margot Fonteyn classic ballerina of times ago but forever part of art and ballet history.  The fragrance includes herbs rosemary a woodsy citrus, wormwood aka absinthe, which isn't a straight licorice or anise smell, it is more subtle and musty and woody.  Cardamom is a spicy and woody smell which is the theme of Fonteyn,  Evocation of times past.

Lastly, we have Gilot, whose name stems from Picasso's muse Francois Gilot, one of his wives.  The ingredients in this juice are citrusy containing bergamot, neroli and spice nutmeg.  Very much a fresh enlivening scent.

Ex Nihilo

Burgeoning olfactory heaven creators Ex Nihilo, a french outfit, have been busy creating scents that are outside the box of the stock standard perfumes we are inundated with, since 2013.   Ex Nihilo want to give you a true luxury experience with the way they create scents with a range of options that you choose with the help of a clever machine called an Osmologue and another raw ingredient of the highest quality.

Sweet Morphine is their latest creation which is also unisex and their tenth scent which was also aided by the lauded industry nose Nathalie Cetto and this is the exciting result.  It includes mimosa, iris in its floral armoury as well as the delightful scent of bergamot, lilac and the satisfying, familiar scent of soft vanilla.
